How to Tie a Tie: The Half Windsor Knot -- the simplest and easiest knot!
*Many websites have pages or links with illustrations on how to tie a necktie. These sites will also show several different
knots that may be tied, including the Half Windsor necktie knot, the Full Windsor necktie knot, and the Four-in-Hand necktie
knot.
*We believe that anyone searching a website on how to tie a necktie knot would most appreciate the simplest knot to tie.
*For that reason, the photos and instructions presented below will show you how to tie a simple Half Windsor knot. It is a very
functional necktie knot.
*All photos will show you how the necktie would look as if you were tying your necktie in front of a mirror.
Neckties have two panels: a wide panel (W), and a narrow panel (N).
Raise the collar and place the necktie around the neck with the wide panel W coming around the left side of the neck.
Cross the wide panel W over the narrow panel N.
The wide panel W should hang past the narrow panel N about twelve inches at this step.

Pull the wide panel W
up and over the back
of the crossing point
made in Step 1.

Wrap the wide panel W around
the front of the crossing point
(which is now becoming the
"knot").
Note: Keep one or two fingers
of the left hand between the
wide panel W and the crossing
point to give you room to pull
the wide panel W through in
the next step.
Take the wide panel W
behind the knot, and go
up and over the back
of the knot, pulling the
wide panel W through
the gap being held
open by the finger(s) of
your left hand.

Holding the knot loosely
with two fingers, take
the other hand and
grasp the narrow panel
N.
Holding the narrow
panel N firmly, gently
push the necktie knot
up toward your neck.
After pulling the wide
panel W completely
through the gap,
pull down on the wide
panel W to take out the
slack in the necktie knot.
